On June 12-17, 2011, CSCOR sponsored researchers and agency scientists led sessions, gave presentations, and provided expert discussions at the Mycotoxins & Phycotoxins Gordon Research Conference, Colby College, Maine. Algae, cyanobacteria and fungi are capable of producing an expansive array of toxins that adversely affect the health of humans and animals.
The prestigious Gordon Research Conferences have a long, rich history and 2011 marks the 80th Anniversary, with this the 15th event on mycotoxins and phycotoxins. The conferences offer a unique international forum for academic, governmental and industrial scientists to exchange ideas, identify new research opportunities and initiate cross-disciplinary collaborations.
The setting fosters creative thinking that in turn advances knowledge of toxigenic microbes and their toxins and the complex environmental and societal problems they create. The conference highlighted CSCOR research on Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and will help to guide research planning regarding HAB prevention, control and management. CSCOR also co-sponsored the event.
