NCCOS is pleased to welcome and host Knauss Marine Policy Fellow Dr. Trevor Meckley in 2016. Trevor has a PhD in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University and is sponsored by Michigan Sea Grant. The prestigious Knauss Fellowship, named after one of Sea Grant's founders and former NOAA Administrator John A. Knauss, matches highly qualified graduate students with hosts in the legislative and executive branch of government, located in the Washington, D.C. area, for a one year paid fellowship.
During his fellowship year, Trevor will focus on improving coordination of NCCOS's extramural hypoxia programs. His responsibilities will include staffing NOAA efforts for the U. S. Hypoxia Task Force, taking a leadership role in the annual hypoxia coordination workshop and assisting in the peer-review process for competitively selected hypoxia proposals. Trevor brings important skills and capabilities to NCCOS and will play a major role in bridging the gap between science, management, and policy on this nationally relevant issue.
