NCCOS provides NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries with scientific and technical support, including all environmental characterization within sanctuaries. Successful efforts in mapping Lake Michigan aided in the designation of Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary in 2021.
