NCCOS scientists are studying how elkhorn and mountainous star coral respond to water contaminants

 Several rows of aquarium tanks containing coral fragments. Lights are suspended from the ceilingElkhorn and mountainous star coral are both threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. Our scientists are studying how their larvae respond to water contaminants and various reproduction methods. Last summer, our team successfully collected larvae to transport back to the lab to aid in these studies.
