Scientists from the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, the Office of Response and Restoration, and the Office of Coastal Resource Management recently met with local fishermen in Vieques, Puerto Rico to discuss a new NOS study aimed at addressing the potential effects of contaminants on the local fishery. The new study, funded by NOAA's Coral Reef Conservation Program, was requested by Puerto Rico's Department of Natural and Environmental Resources. The fishermen provided the NOAA team with valuable input on target species and locations of concern in the marine waters of Vieques. Field work for this project will occur this summer, and the project will be completed in 2015.
