Sarah Gonyo, PhD

Gonyo is an Economist, supporting NCCOS’s social science portfolio. She supports the social science team’s ecosystem service valuation and human use portfolios as well as the Socioeconomic Component of the Coral Reef Conservation Program’s National Coral Reef Monitoring Program. Gonyo also contributes to other social science priorities and projects.

Gonyo joined NCCOS’ social science team in 2014 to develop and provide social science information to inform coastal management decisions. She has supported projects in human use mapping and ecosystem service valuation, and supports the Socioeconomic Component of CRCP’s National Coral Reef Monitoring Program. Gonyo is also a subject matter expert for other projects related to social science within NCCOS.

Gonyo earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2014 and her BS in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Mary Washington in 2010. During that time, her research focused on the effects of water quality improvements on the Maryland blue crab fishery. She is currently pursuing a graduate certificate in Survey Statistics from the Joint Program in Survey Methodology at the University of Maryland, College Park.
