Laura Webster

Webster works with the Key Species and Bioinformatics Branch located in Charleston, SC. She studies the benefits that oysters provide when they extract nutrient loads from the water column.

Webster is a microbiologist and medical technologist who worked as a clinical microbiologist before joining NOAA in 1990. She has used traditional and molecular methods to study seafood safety and microbial water quality for most of her career. She also used molecular methods to identify various species of sharks. She studied the toxicity of chemicals and pollutants on corals.

Webster represents NCCOS on the NCCOS People Committee. She supports and empowers employees impacted by SASH (sexual assault-sexual harassment) as a credentialed victim advocate / Volunteer Assistance Liaison (VAL) with the Office of Workplace Violence Prevention and Response.
