Spires develops techniques and tools that enhance the abilities of shellfish growers and managers to understand growth, larval processes, and test alternative setting techniques. He also serves as the Unit Diving Supervisor for Silver Spring based NCCOS NOAA Divers.
Spires has a PhD and MS in Marine Estuarine Environmental Science from the University of Maryland – Horn Point Laboratory.
