NOAA Supports Regional Science Fairs

NOAA 'Taking the Pulse of the Planet' award is at regional and state science fairs affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) to students (one middle, one high school) whose research best supports NOAA's mission 'To understand and predict changes in climate, weather, oceans, and coasts…'

At the Montgomery County Regional Science Fair, Susan Baker was joined by Laura Morse (NMFS/OPR) to review 48 NOAA science related projects and select the winners.

The senior award went to a project entitled 'The Effects of El Niño and La Niña on Algae Growth in the Chesapeake Bay'.

The junior award went to a project called 'The Effect on Utilizing Natural Enzymes on the Breakdown of Oil'.

Four other NOAA staff participated as category judges at the fair.
