NCCOS Hosts Korea -U.S. Exchange on Aquaculture

The seventh meeting of the Korea -U.S. Joint Coordination Panel for Aquaculture Cooperation was held at NOAA’s Center for Coastal Fisheries and Habitat Research in Beaufort, N.C. on May 20 -24, 2014. The panel was composed of aquaculture experts from Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, NOAA Sea Grant, NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service, and NCCOS.

Panelists were charged with managing a portfolio of research and technology exchanges, including: aquaculture feeds, integrated multi-trophic aquaculture, oyster aquaculture, impacts of harmful algal blooms on fish and shellfish physiology, recirculating aquaculture technology, and environmental monitoring and modeling of aquaculture in the coastal ocean and estuaries.

Representatives from NCCOS’s Coastal Aquaculture Planning and Environmental Sustainability program hosted the meeting and provided aquaculture tours and research demonstrations focused on coastal planning methods for meeting sustainable aquaculture goals.
