The National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) Kasitsna Bay Laboratory provided multidisciplinary marine science training for 12 tribal environmental coordinators from Alaska Native villages across the state in the third annual Tribal Marine Science Workshop on April 9-15, 2012.
The workshop provided a unique opportunity for staff from remote villages to get classroom and hands-on field science training in marine biology, oceanography, marine mammals, subsistence use of resources and fisheries.
The multi-agency workshop was organized by U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Seldovia Village Tribe and hosted by Kasitsna Bay Laboratory, with instructors from NCCOS, National Marine Fisheries Service, Alaska Sea Grant, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.
