Training included emergency action plans, office safety and ergonomics, fall protection/ladder safety, fire prevention, HAZCOM (hazard communication), chemical hygiene plan, chemical spill response, and fire extinguisher use for all lab employees or science staff. Ensuring all employees are trained in these safety areas reduces the threat of accidents and ensures a safe work environment at COL.

NCCOS safety officer Ron Gagnon and COL’s safety officer Jay Lewis provided training to all Maryland Department of Natural Resources and NOAA employees who work at COL.

The COL is a unique combination of scientific, response and management capabilities of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Coast Guard. All three organizations collaborate to meet their respective missions and address science and management challenges.
