Restoration experts recently deployed artificial substrates help restore mesophotic corals

Restoration experts recently deployed artificial substrates deeper than 200 ft to help restore mesophotic corals in the Gulf as part of a long-term effort to restore deep-sea habitats injured by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. These dome-shaped concrete structures were specially designed to support coral growth and provide habitat for other small marine animals.
