An NCCOS-funded study found that human sources of nutrient pollution are promoting growth of algae in the Southern California Bight that is predicted to result in a large area (~30% of the Bight) of lowered subsurface oxygen and pH. https://coastalscience.noaa.gov/news/coastal-eddies-promote-large-scale-algal-response-to-urban-eutrophication/
