an aquarium tank with several colonies of branching coralDeepwater Horizon oil spill greatly affected ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico, and mesophotic and deep benthic communities are still experiencing the impacts. Our scientists are investigating the extent of the impacts to coral communities and how best to restore the damaged populations. They are exploring best practices for husbandry techniques, including feeding, environmental conditions, and reproduction. https://coastalscience.noaa.gov/news/noaa-usgs-investigate-mesophotic-coral-biology-to-support-restoration/ #CoralsWeek
