New project examines how microplastics interact with chemicals in coastal ecosystems

Bucket filled with water with marsh grass in the bottom

NCCOS scientists are preparing for a new project to examine how microplastic pollution interacts with chemical contamination in coastal ecosystems. They’ll use their in-housed developed Small Intertidal Microcosm PLant Exposure (SIMPLE) Systems (pictured here), which allows them to raise and lower the water level mimicking the tidal environment.
