Communicating Protected Species Conservation in a Changing Climate

Summary / Description

NOAA Fisheries Office of Protected Resources is seeking a student to develop and expand communications efforts on conserving threatened and endangered marine species in a changing climate. This work will also align with the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act, which form the foundation of marine species conservation, protection, and recovery at NOAA. 

Working with the NOAA Fisheries Office of Protected Resources leadership and staff, the student will tell engaging stories about endangered and threatened species, whose survival and habitat are more vulnerable due to climate change. 

Communication is critical to informing and inspiring the public about science and conservation efforts. Specific possible products, depending on the student’s skillset, could include web stories, social media content, videos, graphics, and much more. This opportunity will help you develop valuable science communication skills that will be widely applicable to your future endeavors.

Skills Required

Seeking a student with strong written and verbal communication skills who is enthusiastic, dependable, and able to prioritize and meet deadlines. Interest in translating scientific information for the public is preferred. A science background is preferred, but not required.
