National Observer Program Data Form Compilation and PRA Package Preparation for Regional Fisheries Observer and Electronic Monitoring Programs (Highlands, NJ)

Summary / Description

The NOAA Fisheries Office of Science and Technology is looking an intern who is interested in working with the National Observer Program (NOP) and regional monitoring programs to prepare and update the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) forms, paperwork, and descriptive statements for our nation’s data collection in commercial fisheries.  NOAA Fisheries observer and electronic monitoring programs are vital components of federal fisheries science and management. The Paperwork Reduction Act protects the public from excessive and duplicative federal information requests by requiring agencies to justify the necessity and utility of every form through a mandatory public review and approval process.  The internship will allow an individual to become familiar with fisheries monitoring, as well as the policy related side of requesting data from the public through PRA.  The intern will be able to work directly with personnel in each of the  NOAA Fisheries Regions, while working directly with the NOP Coordinator from NOAA’s headquarters office.  Other opportunities may present themselves while working at the NOAA Sandy Hook laboratory and/or when visiting NOAA Fisheries Headquarters (if able to travel).
