Aquaculture Development

NCCOS Aquaculture provides high quality science, guidance, and technical support to coastal managers to grow sustainable aquaculture while maintaining and improving ecosystem health.

Areas of Focus

What We Do

We work with local, state, and federal agencies as well as industry and stakeholder partners to create and expand upon innovative aquaculture tools and technology for a growing industry. Using the best available science, we provide forward-thinking solutions to sustainable aquaculture development goals while minimizing environmental impacts and user conflicts. The NCCOS Hollings Marine Lab Aquaculture Wing includes multiple culture systems used to raise and study oysters, shrimp, red drum, alligators, cobia, and others.

Other NOAA Aquaculture Resources

In addition to NCCOS's aquaculture coastal planning and siting, NOAA’s Aquaculture Program includes the National Marine Fisheries Service, which focuses on regulation and policy and Sea Grant for research, extension, and education.
