We’re providing support in responding to a Louisiana oil spill

aerial image of affected area of marsh environment near Garden Island Bay, Louisiana on April 27, 2025.We are providing scientific support to NOAA’s Office of Response and Restoration in response to discharging oil and natural gas into marsh and surrounding waters near Garden Island Bay, Louisiana (Well #59). Passive samplers – silicone bands that absorb oil compounds from the water column – were deployed at the site in mid-May. These water column samples will be analyzed for oil compounds by #NCCOS, which will provide information on the level of exposure to oil in the impacted area.
