Top 10 of 2025 | In July, our Lake Erie hypoxia forecast models detected low to no oxygen

NOAA’s forecast gave drinking water managers early warning so they were prepared to respond if needed.

Between July 3 and September 30, NCCOS issued 10 hypoxia alerts for Lake Erie. Eight of these were for the Ohio coast, and two specifically for Canada. This is the first year that hypoxia alerts were issued to support public water suppliers along the Canadian central basin.
