Our Lake Erie hypoxia forecast is now being used operationally to provide timely information related to low oxygen levels in the water during hypoxia events, helping local decision makers take action to maintain safe drinking water for the communities that depend on it. This represents a major achievement in being the first near-term trajectory hypoxia forecasting system moved into operational use at NOAA. Learn more in the 2025 NOAA Science Report.
