NOAA & USGS scientists recently documented mesophotic coral spawning in captivity for the first time, a breakthrough for coral conservation. The corals spawned simultaneously in two federal labs, giving scientists an unprecedented opportunity to observe their reproductive habits, spawning behavior, and larval development.
