Scientists from NCCOS traveled to Kodiak, Alaska to complete the spring mapping survey for toxic Alexandrium blooms, which can produce toxins that accumulate in shellfish, potentially causing paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) in consumers. This is the first of 3 sampling trips to identify environmental factors driving Alexandrium bloom distribution to improve HAB monitoring and inform shellfish aquaculture decision-making in Kodiak.
