Summary / Description

The Natural Capital Coalition (NCC) was formed as a global, multi-stakeholder collaboration to create the Natural Capital Protocol aiming to help businesses identify, measure, and value their impacts and dependencies to manage natural capital. The U.S. Department of Commerce and NOAA are key members to the Coalition and aim to integrate natural capital planning into American businesses. The Natural Capital Project aims to integrate natural capital principles into American businesses and to assist in the development of the Oceans Supplement to the Natural Capital Protocol. While the Natural Capital Protocol provides a general framework for businesses, the Oceans Supplement will specifically guide businesses in the ocean economy. The intern selected for this project will have plan an integral role in developing the Oceans Supplement. Intern(s) will identify key sectors of the ocean economy and organize them by their impacts and dependencies on the ocean. Sectors include marine engineering, transportation, cultural services, natural resources, and energy extraction. The prospective intern will also have the opportunity to engage with the private sector and develop engagement tools.

Skills Required

Seeking a motivated self-starter with an interest in marine policy, ocean conservation, marine biology, or social sciences in natural resource management. Introductory courses in any of the above mentioned disciplines. -Fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. -Excellent writing and copyediting skills. -Strong work ethic; attention to detail and good organizational skills; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. -Creativity and adaptability. -Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
