Deliver ocean acidification information to people who need it (Silver Spring, MD or Virtual)

Summary / Description

Help us get critical information about ocean and coastal acidification into the hands of people who need it most! NOAA’s Ocean Acidification Program prepares society to respond to ocean, coastal and Great Lakes acidification by fostering transdisciplinary research, education, and outreach. The intern will have autonomy to pursue his/her own projects with support of the mentor and other team members. Projects may include engaging with researchers or community members to write original, plain language stories for a public-facing federal website, creating video content communicating NOAA’s work, packaging education materials into useful toolkits for public access, and curating the best available resources for many audiences.

Through this experience, the intern will:

  • Build your network with several NOAA programs and labs and partners,
  • advance professional growth through mentorship and collaboration with a dedicated team
  • strengthen their communications, writing and interpersonal skills,
  • get experience with working on a national scale in a federal agency with NOAA.

Interns an integral part of the OAP team, which respects contributions to discussions and work engaged by the program.

Skills Required

  • This position will require a self-starter with excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and written and communication skills 
  • Good time management and ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Interest or experience with ocean science and ocean acidification
  • Data visualization, graphics design, or other visualization skills are desirable but not required
