Research at the NOAA Fisheries Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC) is aimed at increasing domestic seafood production. Specific goals for this project are focused on advancing the science of sablefish production to support commercial aquaculture industry development and success.
The intern will work as a team member with the NWFSC’s Aquaculture Program to assist with efforts to establish a footprint for commercial US sablefish (a.k.a. black cod) aquaculture production and advance this emerging industry. Key research areas that are being addressed involve projects involving Aquatic Animal Health and Disease Management (e.g. vaccine development) and Reproductive Physiology (i.e., enhancing spawning success of captive broodstock and developing novel methods of sterility induction).
