Opportunities in Science for American Indians and Native Alaskans
A Memorandum of Agreement between the National Ocean Service (NOS), through the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS), and the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) was fully executed on May 20, 2010.
The agreement will enable NOAA to better meet mandates under the “America Competes Act” to support formal and informal educational activities that enhance the public’s awareness and understanding of ocean, coastal, Great Lakes, and atmospheric science and stewardship.
This partnership furthers NOS’s ongoing efforts to collaborate with AISES in support of Native students and to increase the proportion of underrepresented groups in ocean and atmospheric science and policy careers. NCCOS will build upon this initiative in its effort to recruit highly qualified young scientists into its science programs.
