New Tool Links Bibliography to Related Atlantic Coastal Fish Habitats

A new tool linking various bibliographic resources to the corresponding geographic area has recently been released by NOAA’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science. The tool, completed in collaboration with the Atlantic Coastal Fish Habitat Partnership and National Fish Habitat Action Plan, links standard bibliographic and policy-relevant assessment information within a spatial framework, all accessible through web-based tools. It also provides summaries of habitat condition, analyses of threats to habitats and recommendations on conservation efforts. The tool is described in detail, along with recommendations for improvement and new uses for it in coastal conservation planning, in a technical memorandum “Assessment of Existing Information on Atlantic Coastal Fish Habitats: Development of a web-based spatial bibliography, query tools, and data summaries.” A PDF version of the report, along with additional information, is available at http://ccma.nos.noaa.gov/ecosystems/estuaries/coastalfish.aspx, and the web-based query tools are accessible at http://www8.nos.noaa.gov/bhv/spatbibindex.html.
