NCCOS Research to Inform International Ocean Dumping Management

National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science researchers have submitted a paper to the 30th meeting of the Scientific Group under the London Convention and the 1st meeting of the Scientific Group under the London Protocol. The paper, “Monitoring and Assessment of the Marine Environment: National Strategies – National Status and Trends Program,” provides an overview of NCCOS’s National Status and Trends Program, which has been maintained since 1984. The paper will be considered and become part of the record at the Scientific Group meeting, which will be held June 18-22, 2007, in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The London Convention is an international treaty that limits ocean dumping of wastes generated on land. Its Scientific Group provides scientific and technical advice to London Convention Parties.
