NOAA Expertise Leads 'Beneath the Waves' Film Festival in North Carolina

"Saving North Carolina's Reefs" film short from the Beneath the Waves Film Festival.

"Saving North Carolina's Reefs" - one of the film shorts shown at the "Beneath the Waves" Film Festival - highlights North Carolina oyster reef research.

North Carolina -based scientists were on hand at the North Carolina Maritime Museum's "Beneath the Waves" Film Festival this past spring to relate six short science films to local research. The group included scientists from NCCOS, the National Marine Fisheries Service, and the National Estuarine Research Reserve System, all co-located at NOAA's Beaufort Laboratory.

The Beaufort Laboratoryalso staffed a booth in the museum highlighting NOAA research. Films from the festival can be viewed online: Windy People, Dynamic Landscapes (5:49); Gloop (3:48); Saving North Carolina's Reefs (9:50); Postcard from the Oregon Coast (5:33); Baja (4:44); The Immigrant (3:00).

Event partners included Sea Grant, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Institute of Marine Science, the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, N.C., and the North Carolina Science Festival.
